Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (with some flexibility on start times)

Join the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office as an executive officer at our Historical Information Rights Unit.
The HIR Team manages information access requests for records over 20 years old. These files—held at The National Archives form one of the most significant and respected historical collections in the world. As an Executive Officer, you’ll handle information requests from start to finish, working within the framework of the Freedom of Information Act and UK GDPR.
Responsibilities:
- Manage your own caseload of historical FOI requests, from initial receipt to final response
- Conduct thorough searches of electronic and paper records, logging results in our case management system
- Liaise with The National Archives and internal stakeholders to coordinate decisions on records not yet open to the public
- Draft clear and legally compliant responses, including preparing and dispatching approved materials
- Coordinate sensitivity reviews and public interest tests with subject matter experts
- Respond to mailbox enquiries promptly (within 48 hours), escalating more complex queries when needed
- Check and prepare hard copy materials for release to ensure accuracy and compliance
